Ashes

A Poem by Valentina Cano

A childhood wrapped in paper.
That’s what she recalled.
Memories that crinkled and squeaked,
colors swirling along with her words.
It all shifted and sagged in the rain,
burned in the sun.
Nothing was safe
and the memories piled on.
