Training Wheels

A Poem by Kevin Ridgeway

never
came off
my bicycle
and the
rotten kids
laughed
they were
ten years
old
going
on
eighty
slowly
moving
uphill
on this
diminutive
road beast
of chrome
and
reflecting lights
in the
wavering sun
dodging
foaming
jaws of
neighborhood
dogs
carefully
guarding
a basket
full of secrets.
