Gilead Days

A Poem by Richard Hartwell

I miss my gilead days of Gilroy,
Basalt-backed and granite-anchored,
Long-lived oaks with mustard banners
Flowing over emerald fields, only to ebb
With the sere Santa Anas of summer;
Obsessed to return, even in dreams.
