A Poem by Sandy Benitez
Let’s pretend we can speak Chinese.
We’ll get symbols of Chinese words
tattooed on our arms,
wear sleeveless tees
in Chinatown.
Or maybe we should just be
ourselves for once.
Order Chinese takeout,
throw out the cookies and not the fortunes,
save the chopsticks as drink mixers,
and eat with forks.
Learn how to make fried rice
from scratch.
Save the tattoo money
for a rainy day.
Go see a martial arts movie
starring Jet Li.
